The yacht’s interior designer, Pieter Beeldsnijder, incorporates the tradition of yachting whilst also integrating the modern needs of stylish, yet relaxed, living and a functional approach to light, natural wooden joinery and space.

Sailing Yacht ETHEREAL was designed by Ron Holland to be a blend of the traditional with classic yacht lines, which perhaps disguise an extraordinary level of modern technological innovation which focuses on energy conservation and sustainable, autonomous operation.

Windows and hatches manufactured from exotic glass laminates are designed to become increasingly opaque as infrared heat increases. A hybrid electromechanical propulsion system allows the yacht, under sail, to charge its technically-advanced bank of lithium polymer batteries instead of using generators. Advanced solid state lighting illuminates the yacht richly while drawing on a small fraction of the power of the conventional lighting used on most yachts.

Rising Sun's principal, Robert Sardinsky, and principal associates, James Benya and David Vanhaus worked closely with the yacht's owner, shipyard and designers to help develop a high performance lighting plan that met the demanding aesthetic and functional illumination requirements of the project. Both ultra-high energy efficiency and reliability were paramount to the design. Extensive mockups and prototypes were completed throughout the design process and most of the solid state "lighting engines" and fixtures were custom designed for the yacht.
